Pride 2020 did not look the same as Pride celebrations in years past. Most events became virtual, although there were a few safe, socially distant festivities. Here's how we celebrated Pride in Elmhurst and surrounding communities throughout the month of June.

Virtual Fitness Classes
Log in to these Pride-themed classes throughout June! All classes are free and open to the public (some require registration in advance). We only ask that you consider a donation to Youth Outlook, a local social service agency serving LGBTQ+ youth that recently opened their newest teen Drop-In site in Elmhurst, and has continued to serve families across northern Illinois online since shelter-in-place began in March. You can donate directly through their website at youth-outlook.org/donate.
Tuesday, June 9, 5:30 PM --- Intro to Boxing with Arti, of Title Boxing Club Elmhurst. (NEW DATE)

Equipment needed: mat and towel, weights optional.
Work through the 6 standard punches to create short combinations and fight for your best version of you. This will be a mix of cardio, boxing, and strength training using only your body weight or optional light hand weights (or water bottles!) for resistance. Arti will offer modifications and challenges for all fitness and mobility levels so you can feel free to work at your own pace! Come as you are and leave with a new skill, feeling stronger than ever. You may have taken her class at FFC, Evolution Dance Studio, or Fitt 60126 (formerly Fitt-Rx). Now's your chance to dance (at home) like no one is watching, until we ask you to turn on your Zoom video so we can see a few of your moves! Kristin will lead you through an hour of hip-hop classics and a few Pride-themed hits. Then we will stay on to share a few cocktails. Log in decked out in your EPC tee or your best Pride gear - rainbows, glitter, the works!

Saturday, June 13, 9 AM --- Yoga with Cassie Quick.

Elmhurst is for everyone - just like yoga! Join local teacher Cassie for 1 hour of feel-good yoga flow to start off your Saturday. This special class is appropriate for all levels and is a celebration of community, acceptance, and, of course, Pride!
Thursday, June 18, 6 PM --- Cardio/Strength with Niko, of Ignite Fitness.

Equipment needed: nothing.
Follow along as Niko leads you through 40 minutes of cardio and strength training, using only your own body weight for resistance. Bonus points if you wear your Pride-themed Ignite tank top available only through the Ignite Fitness store. These custom tees are available for a limited time, and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Elmhurst Pride Collective!
Sunday, June 21, 10 AM --- Pilates with Beth, of Pilates Room Elmhurst.

Join Beth, a Master Trainer with 2 decades of experience, for 45 minutes of intense Mat Pilates. It's a full-body workout for anyone who loves a little extra challenge on a Sunday morning.
Wednesday, June 24 --- Pride Day at FITT60126.
Members can choose from the day's scheduled mix of outdoors and Zoom classes. Non-members can try a free outdoors class at 10:30 am. Register for the free class at elmhurstpridecollective@gmail.com by 6/23.
Equipment needed: a mat.
Members know what to expect from these intense FITT workouts. On this special day, non-members can also join a Pride Day workout led by Bridget, featuring a mix of cardio and strength training. Bring a mat, towel, and lots of water to get you through the morning. On FITT's Pride Day, donations are encouraged for Brave Space Alliance. Bring cash or check to your class or donate directly to the website.
Thursday, June 25, 6 PM --- Pride Diva Dance with Dominick, of FFC.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
Chalk Art for Pride --- Saturday, June 13, 10 am - 2 pm
Show your support for Pride by decorating the First United Methodist Church (232 S. York, Elmhurst) parking lot with chalk! The church will provide the chalk and will assign spaces to allow for social distancing. Wear a mask and your Pride gear, and come out to draw inspiring messages, colorful rainbows, anything that represents Pride to you! Fun for the whole family!
3rd Annual Pride Fest --- Saturday, June 20, 11 am - 12:30 pm
Meet at the Elmhurst Presbyterian Church (367 Spring Rd.) and get ready for a car parade celebrating the LGBTQ community! Decorate your car and follow the route, honking your horn and making noise for Pride. Best decorated win prizes from sponsors Brewpoint Coffee and Glass & Grain Photography!
